Re: Event 5 Picton
This is where Steve and I attended and it was AWESOME. I will post some pictures from that event. I did not take these so they are rather low quality. Sorry. I will take better pictures in the future.

Re: Event 5 Picton
Jamie, can you post what kind of prep and equipment is required for these events in your opinion? Any tips for those who would be interested in trying for the first time?

Re: Event 5 Picton
This is the regional event and as far as I know, not something you go to unless you intend on participating in the series. This would be a relativley serious event.
STLAC (the saint lawrence autosport club) holds monthly events at the picton airport, like $30 to enter. Once they post the schedule up, I'll post it here. a lot of fun.
As for recommendations, make sure all the fluids are topped up particularly oil. I actually run 1 quart of oil extra in my motor since they are susceptible to rod knock with high G loads. I can go over 3 quarts before the oil contacts the crank and overfilling actually becomes an issue. Your car will be different I am sure, but make sure it's at least at full line. The slalom course can easily expose an oil pickup if you're running low on oil and your oil pan design isn't ideal.
take all the crap out of your car (spare tire, jack poo poo in the glove box etc. ) make sure there are no loose papers or anything...stuff will fly all over the place. Along those lines, make sure you battery tiedown is secure.
If you can, bring an air compressor. It's almost always beneficial to have your tires a bit over inflated when autcrossing. The extra sidewall tension can really help. If you can't bring an air compressor, over inflate them a bit at a gas station, then air them down to suite how your car is handling. more pressure increases sidewall tension and reduces slip angle, but if you inflate too much the tread face becomes deformed and you lose grip.
letting some air out of the rear tires will help the car oversteering a bit more and I can almost guarantee any stock-ish car will understeer at low autocross speeds.
let me know if you have any more questions. I plan on hitting a lot of these in the summer!
